It’s right in our name, folks: Williamson Creative Agency. We are a team of creative creatives creating, so we asked our core team what creative work means to them.

Creative work is…

…collaborative.

We agree that, above all, creative work is an act of collaboration. “To tell an authentic story and to build awareness of the great work that's happening, creative work needs to be collaborative,” says Brenda, our graphic designer. “To move toward a collective vision and create lasting change, we need to work together.” WCA is powered by collaboration among our team members and with our clients. “It’s about weaving together ideas, needs, and art to create something new,” adds Zoe, our creative operations manager.

…relational.

We might be working with a client to develop an idea that furthers an initiative, or collaborating among ourselves to zero in on a new logo. Perhaps a guidebook we designed and printed for a client about tribal consultation is helping an educator facilitate a consultation with a local tribe. Both the creative process and the creative output are relational. “Creative work is a constant pull towards each other through a winding web of commonalities,” adds our creative director, Monica.

…personal.

At the same time creative work is connective and collaborative, two things that inherently happen when there is more than one person involved, it is also deeply personal. Each of us carries our own completely unique set of life circumstances and experiences. “Creativity is an expression of individuality,” says Alison, our communication specialist. “Only you can write this,” was a mantra that got Alison through grad school. She still knows this to be true — and believes every person has a singular flame of life force inside them — but will also tell you that all of her best creative work has happened, is happening, and will hopefully continue to happen in conscious collaboration with trusted partners.

…empowering.

We all agree that creativity is a form of rest and self-care, which boosts our sense of inner and collective power. Monica adds that creative work is both an inherent right and a commitment to responsibility. “To tell stories with others means we have a responsibility to do so thoughtfully and with conscious decisions,” she says. “Creativity is an inherent right. Every one of us possesses the ability to tap into a creative way of being.” Whether it's a muscle we flex often or not, there is a spark inside of us all waiting to ignite.
