Sharing Services Widely
Tribal Justice Support (TJS) is an arm of the Bureau of Indian Affairs that offers grants, training, and support justice services to tribes. The Whitener Group, a native-owned consulting group, supports their efforts through various justice initiatives, including amplifying discussion around the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization of 2022 (VAWA) and Healing to Wellness Courts.
Designing a Digital Hub
TJS needed an easily accessible, web-based hub for its training and professional development announcements, event recordings, and resource updates. WCA worked alongside The Whitener Group to develop a website that eased access to services and resources for learning.

Our Process
To create consistency in the site’s visual appearance early, we began with developing a simple style guide approved by leadership at TJS and The Whitener Group. We then selected the best web platform to suit the functionality needs, including webinar recordings, resource announcements, and training session materials. Over the course of several months, and in working partnership with TJS and The Whitener Group, we developed and iterated a website that allowed valuable educational content to be readily accessible.

Readily Available Resources
VAWA includes provisions that enhance the ability of Native American tribes to prosecute non-Native offenders who commit violence on tribal lands. With new possibilities for addressing the historical and ongoing gaps in justice for Indigenous women and children, sharing knowledge and resources among tribes is essential, and this website makes it easier to do so. The TJS website is now used by those who seek additional training and resources in tribal justice matters, including tribal court administrators, attorneys, judges, social workers, peer advocates, and law enforcement officials. Visitors can access past event agendas that include links to publicly accessible video recordings and materials. TJS hosts dozens of virtual and hybrid training sessions per year; this website serves as an archive of the important information shared at past VAWA and Healing to Wellness webinars.
